Protest against principal over Venusha's death


Arrangements have been made to stage a huge protest today (10) against the principal of Sir John Kothalawala Maha Vidyalaya ,Kurunegala, who is presumed to be responsible for the death of P.B Venusha , a grade 11 student.

Based on Kurunegala city currently a strong student movement is rising on behalf of the student who committed suicide over an accusation in relation to Facebook and the Facebook users are also making preparations to launch a cyber campaign protesting against the incident.

On the day of the funeral, Friday (07), the funeral procession of was to take the road in front of the Sir John Kothalawala Maha Vidyalaya, to reach the cemetery. However the principal has reportedly taken measures to get a restraining order preventing them from using the said road and preventing the students from attending the funeral wearing the school uniform.

The deceased student, who is identified as Venusha Imandi is a resident of Thorayaya, Dambulla road, was a beautiful girl facing the O/L examination this year.

In a letter written over two foolscap sheets by the student before she committed suicide she has mentioned that the principal has scolded her in filth.

In the letter written to her father she has stated that the principal scolded her using even inappropriate words for an offense she did not commit and that she is committing suicide so that another student will not have to face the same plight in future.
