"Ali Baby" suspect in the murder of a 21 year youth has surrendered

The UPFA member of the Weligapola pradeshiya Sabha Wasantha also known as "Ali Baby" who is a suspect in the murder of a 21 year old youth has surrendered to the Rathnapura Police a short while ago.  Villagers are reported to have celebrated the arrest, lighting crackers in the area. The STF was rushed in for the funeral of the youth after angry villagers protested against the murder.

The assault victim has been identified as G. Amila Pradeep, whose wife is incidentally due to give birth in a few weeks’ time.

According to police, the PS member had assaulted the youth on February 28 when he had gone to the home of a woman, with whom the politician had been having an extramarital affair.
He was found dumped near a cemetery in fatal condition on the following day, and people rushed him to Ratnapura hospital.

The youth died on March 09, and his funeral took place yesterday (Mar. 11) at Hatangala.
Police prevented the people from staging a protest to demand the arrest of the PS member, against whom there are previous murder charges.
